I want to stress the importance of living a healthy lifestyle as being a journey, a process. There will be times that you will stumble. There will be times where making the healthy choice will be a struggle. This is when you think of why you wanted to live a healthy lifestyle in the first place, whether it is to prevent chronic illnesses that run in your family, to feel and look good, or to become an inspiration for others.
For me, it is all of the above. Along with my passion for health and wellness I desired to live a healthy lifestyle as a means for prevention of chronic illnesses such as diabetes and heart disease. I desired to feel and look good. Most of all, I wanted to be an inspiration for the people I want to help achieve their personal health and wellness goals.
In recent years my weight has been an issue that I wanted to work on. It was either the lack of time to exercise or not being able to commit to a healthy diet. In late 2015 I made the decision that starting the new year, I was going to start my healthy lifestyle and I was going to commit to it. To work in the field of health and wellness, it was important for me to not only talk the talk, but to walk the walk as well. I made small changes, such as cutting out sodas and increasing my water intake. I started using the health app on my phone to track my calories, water, and caffeine intake. Most importantly, I started exercising for 30 minutes a day in the evening. These exercises included workout DVDs, books, and dance games (e.g., Just Dance, Zumba, etc.) on my Wii. By March I had lost 21 pounds.
From that point I had maintained my weight by maintaining my calorie intake and workout routine for the remainder of the year, but had stumbled in the early months of 2017. There is the feeling of personal disappointment when these things happen, but I had to remind myself that this was a journey. It was all the more motivation to get back on track, not only for myself but for you as well!
