Workplace wellness has been a topic I have been interested in since I was a student at the University of Tampa. It was while I was an intern at Tampa General Hospital in the Employee Health department where my supervisor shared with me about Employee Wellness and how she rans programs that promote health and well-being within the hospital.
My supervisor asked what I was passionate about. At that time, I was studying psychology and music with the career intention to become a music therapist. So I shared with her that my passion was the use of music as a healing modality. She asked what do I use music for in everyday life. I said to relieve from stress.
There it was. I was going to create an employee wellness program involving stress management and music.
My supervisor told me research about stress management and different ways that music can be used as a stress reliever. I liked dancing, and playing an instrument (I played the clarinet) as forms a stress relief. My supervisor introduced me to Lily (name has been changed) who was the meditation instructor at the hospital. My supervisor's husband was a drummer and had an empowerment drumming business, and was willing to help be a part of my program.
So I had dancing (aerobics), empowerment drumming, and meditation.....what do I call the program?
I thought for a moment and it came to me: Healing Notes!
Healing Notes became a summer employee wellness program that was fun and helped employees relieve workplace stress.
Loved the idea of employee health and wellness ever since then, that it changed my career path from music therapy. It made me want to pursue health and wellness psychology, and I added it to personal wellness with Fitness Slayers!.
I'm excited to be sharing about workplace wellness along with personal wellness, keep an eye out! I'm going to be sharing some good stuff for real!
