The Fitness Slayers!® Story
Dr. Ellisha Wells always had the passion to combine music with health and wellness. Studying both psychology and music during her undergraduate career at the University of Tampa, her initial career goal was to become a music therapist upon graduating in 2009. A summer internship at Tampa General Hospital made Dr. Wells realize that her passion was more directed in the health, wellness, and fitness path. She went on to pursue master’s and doctorate degrees in health and wellness psychology, graduating in 2013 and 2020 from University of the Rockies and Ashford University, respectively.
In January 2017 while working toward her doctorate degree, Dr. Wells went to explore the job market within the health and wellness field. Although she had found potential jobs involving health and wellness, health education, and health promotion and fulfilled the education qualifications, these employers were seeking years of professional experience that she fell short of having. Also during this time, she created a healthy lifestyle support group on Facebook to not only help herself but others who were on the journey toward better health. Even though she was discouraged about the job market at that time, Dr. Wells realized that she could build her own experience and business through the support group she created. Thus, Fitness Slayers!® was born.
Although Fitness Slayers!® was initially a health coaching service, Dr. Wells saw there was a need for guided meditation and group exercise classes for those going through hard times, especially since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. She expanded Fitness Slayers!® to include guided meditation and group exercise (Zumba®) classes to also focus on spiritual, emotional, and physical health. Dr. Wells has a modest following through Fitness Slayers!®, with the intention to help others achieve better health and have an improved quality-of-life.
